Genus - Alyssum 

Perennial alyssum is also called Basket of Gold. The genus contains over 170 species native to Europe, Asia and Africa.  The name alyssum is derived from the Greek word alossun meaning without rabies. One of it's supposed medicinal qualities was to prevent madness.

Most of the alyssum used in our area are annuals or perennials with most being ground covers with attractive flowers. Perennial alyssum is evergreen.

Culture - Alyssum needs 4-6 hours of direct sun to flower well. Dry or moist soil tolerant.
