Genus - Genista

Genista is more commonly knows as broom. There are around 120 species in the genus. The latin derivation is genesta meaning broom plant. The Genus is mostly deciduous trees and shrubs. They often have yellow pea like blooms and can be fragrant. There are also red, white, and pink blooming types.

Culture - Genista prefers sunny locations and once established can tolerate some drought. Grows in most any soil al long as it is not constantly moist. Easy to grow and underused in our area.
