Genus - Rhododendron

Rhododendron are commonly called by the genus name. There are over 1000 species in the genus. The name derives from the Greek 'rhodon' meaning rose and 'dendron' meaning tree.

Culture - Rhododendrons require a well drained soil. Consistently damp soil will lead to root diseases. Most of the hybrid evergreen rhododendron bloom on old wood. This means the only time of the year to prune them is shortly after their flowers fade and drop off.
