Rated one of the very best botanical gardens in the U.S. We have to agree. Located near Lancaster, PA, on a property once owned by William Penn, the Pierce family planted the beginnings of an arboretum. It was purchased in 1906 by Pierre du Pont and was nurtured into the grand Botanical Garden it is today. There are 4.5 acres of gardens enclosed by a huge conservatory. Outside there are one thousand acres of gardens, meadows, fountains, streams, water falls and woods.
For anyone who likes gardens even a little Longwood belongs high on your bucket list.
